Average Rating:
Rating: - Titianic Movie, Soundtrack and Book
I spent alot of time considering wether or not to go and see this movie, it seemed to me that there was no way that it could be anything but depressing. After swallowing a bitter pill I convinced my husband to take me to see it on Valentine's Day. It made such an emotinal impression that I have been back to see it 9 more times and believe me when I tell you with a career a husband, and a 6 year old that is no easy feat. This movie has made a direct impact on my life and I wish that hollywood would learn a lesson from this film. It was historically acurate, touching and it reached into your soul and touched you personally. I subesquently purchased the soundtrack which is magnificant and the book. Although I cannot listen to the Death of The Titanic song I think that shows what an emotional impact the music and the movie can make. If this film does not recieve an oscar my faith in the academy will be tested. END
Rating: - Longing Celtic melodies
That was the first thing that caught me when I went to see Titanic recently- the sorrowful, weepy crooning had me in tears before the movie began. Horner has raised my goosebumps, and the last composer to do that was John Williams. I think this is an excellent soundtrack, except I was disappointed to learn that the "steerage class" music was missing- Guess I'll have to pick up that Volume 2 everyone is talking about. Much of the music is reminiscent of Enya, with her synthesized vox and uillean pipes. But I have to complain about "My heart will go on"- I'm no Celine Dion fan, and the placement of this song on the CD (Track 14) really got my goat- this song should have been the last track on the CD. It's easier to program out that way.
Rating: - Extraodinary!I loved it! (and I still do...)
Personally, I loved this CD. I thought it was very well written, even if the themes are repeated. I think the only reason Mr. Horner did this was because it was a movie score. He is sticking with the same theme so it won't sound stupid. The music isn't completely the same, if you listen carefully, there is a difference. Many believe this is a classical music piece, I don't. You don't have to like classical music to like this score. Also, many complain that this isn't a very good CD because it doesn't have any words. Now you tell me, I could be mistaken, but would you have liked the movie if you see the actors running on the decks of the sinking ship and listening to a song in the backround with someone singing? I think it ruins the whole concept. I thought the best tracks on this score were "Southampton", "Rose", "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch", and "Leaving Port". My favorite was "Southampton" because it showed a sense ! of pride. It was very emotional and well done. Bravo, Mr. Horner!!
