Average Rating:
Rating: - Psychedelic Pop for New Generation of Naturalists
Audioslave is revolutionary. Instead of pumping out more "nu metal," the group writes beautiful poetry about nature set to a sound that resembles a loud Mamas & Papas. Slave's support of nature (especially forests and birds' rights to make a home where they please) is refreshing in our disposable culture. Get this and understand!
Rating: - Pure musical bliss
I'll admit I was skeptical when I first heard of a Chris Cornell/Rage Against the Machine collaboration, but from the minute I first listened to Audioslave's debut album, I was unbelieveably hooked. Opening song (and hit single) "Cochise" is a pure rock out song that shows the blending of Cornell's lyrics with Rage's rhythm section. "Show Me How to Live" bears resemblance to late Soundgarden going from a heavy melody to a more mellow and back again, while "Gasoline" bears so much resemblance to Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" that it's almost scary. "Like A Stone" is absolutely one of the finest and saddest songs that I have ever heard (I was raving about it before it ever became a hit single) and it is so catchy that you won't be able to not love it from the minute you hear it. Other songs like "I Am the Highway", "Shadow of the Sun", "Exploder", and "The Last Remaining Light" are all great songs, in fact the only song I wasn't too fond of was "Set It Off", but that doesn't take anything away from this album. Cornell's voice has never sounded better, and the way his vocals blend with the music of Tom Morello, Tim Commorford, and Brad Wilk is surprisingly great. The only problems I have with Audioslave is that when it's over it leaves you wanting so much more, and sometimes Cornell's lyrics can sound preachy (like they did on his solo outing "Euphoria Morning"), but as I said before, none of that can take away from how great this album is. All in all, if your craving something meaningful and heavy from talented musicians, then give Audioslave a much needed look.
Rating: - RATM - Zack + Chris = Audioslave= DAMN GOOD MUSIC!!!
The best thing that happened to RATM was losing Zack De La Rocha. Admittedly Rage had some cool songs but were too serious, too political and Zack couldn't sing, I mean what difference was there between the guy singing and talking? Not a lot. Now with former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell on vocals and with the new name Audioslave, the band finally show what they're really capable of. The first single COCHISE is musically very close to RATM but Cornell's lyrics give the material a freshness it never had before, there is also some nice melodic stuff and Tom Morello gets more of those crazy, amazing sounds out of his guitar. AUDIOSLAVE is hopefully only the beginning of something great, ironically; a band that will hopefully save rock n roll from the garbage that is P.O.D and Linkin Park. Now if only the Black Sabbath reunion album with the original lineup gets finished....
