Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Newman & Redford's First Film Together
Paul Newman and Robert Redford are two of the biggest movie stars of all time. They are also the best of friends and that friendship shines through on their first film together, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. The film is set in the old west, but it has a definite 60's feel to it. Butch and Sundance are anti-heroes who defy the "establishment" by robbing trains. Finally the train company gets fed up and sends an elite team of bounty hunters to track them down. This inspires the film's classic catchphrase, "who are those guys" as Butch & Sundance can't shake their pursuers. The film has a light comical side to it as Mr. Newman is at his charming best as Butch and Mr. Redford elicits laughs as the uptight Sundance. Katherine Ross provides a pretty diversion as Sundance's beautiful schoolteacher girlfriend, Etta Place. Mr. Newman & Mr. Redford are instantly likable in the lead roles and you can feel their real affinity for one another come through in the film. The movie was a major box office hit and won and William Goldman won an Oscar for his crisp and witty script and But Bacarach and Hal David won an Oscar for the film's theme song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" which B.J. Thomas took to number one in late 1969.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Entertainment Experience
This is one of the most satisfying films ever made. The movie excels on a number of planes...impeccable cast with extraordinary chemistry, including Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katherine Ross...spectacular scenery and cinematography...a serendipitous musical score by Burt Bacharach, featuring "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"...great direction by George Roy Hill, who later directed "The Sting"...and an amusing storyline about an effusively optimistic bank/train robber, his pragmatic gun-slinging partner, and their beautiful schoolmarm girlfriend. Butch and Sundance try to stay one step ahead of a faceless but relentless posse as they wander from the American west to South America, via New York City, in search of one more bank to rob.

Of all the many things to enjoy in this film, none is better than the dialogue. The movie won a number of Academy Awards, including best story and screenplay. Memorable lines abound. Butch outlines his latest scheme to Sundance and smiles contentedly, "I've got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals." In a later scene, a man named Harvey Logan (Ted Cassidy) challenges Butch to a gun or knife fight for control of the "Hole in the Wall Gang." Butch mutters to Sundance, "Maybe there's a way to make a profit in this..." He glances over at his taller, stronger adversary and frowns, "...bet on Logan." Sundance immediately replies, "I would... but who'd bet on you?" This is a production with flawless artistry...a monument to the entertaining value of the medium of film.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A PERFECT MOVIE
George Roy Hill made a lean, stunningly original, gigantically entertaining movie back in the late 60s with this pop Western. The screenplay, for starters, is one of those rare creations that is spare, full of wit, and surprising at every turn. Even today, the movie's never-ending series of classic moments feel fresh and contemporary, including the titillating presence of Katherine Ross as Sundance's woman, who also loves Butch...? Robert Redford became the superstar he is today via this role, which showcases his subtle humor, his outrageous handsomeness, and his star quality. Paul Newman has never been as appealing; his combination of fear and guts is electric. The musical score, Burt Bacharach's best for the movies, combines several haunting melancholy themes with the irresistable pop of Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head, which underscores one of the most pleasurable moments in the film. Still, this movie does not shy away from the negative qualities of its three anti-heroes; though the finale is double-edged (we love these guys, after all), it is not a movie about how glamorous it is to be a bank robber in the Wild Wild West. Intelligent, compelling and most of all vastly entertaining, this movie deserves to be seen by anyone who loves the movies.
