Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dysfuctional Snobs Meet Harmoneous "Non-Traditional Family"
Robin Williams and Nathan Lane have great "chemistry" as middle aged gay couple faced with a biggie: Their 20 year old son wants to get married and needs his "parents" to put on a phoney pretense for the ultra-conservative in-laws coming for a short-notice visit. Gene Hackman is fantastic as the right wing politician desperate to escape a career threatening scandal. Just to see him in drag at the end is worth the price for this DVD. Both the opening scene and the final scene are priceless. Inbetween you'll find a big barrel of laughs. This is a very funny film, and despite the "controversial" subject-matter, a family movie! -- The undelying message that a "non-traditional family" can be more loving and nurturing than a dysfuctional "traditional family" is a bit burried under all of the laughs. Though dealt with through great comedy, it is a serious matter to ponder. It makes us re-think what exactly we mean by "family values".

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you need a laugh...pick this one!
I first remember seeing this movie in the theater and being truly entertained. Now, I like to watch it from time to time and can't help but continue to laugh hysterically. The story takes place on Miami's South Beach at a club. Robin Williams plays a gay nightclub owner who is flamboyant and who is forced to try to act like a man when his son's fiancee and her family come to visit. Nathan Lane is William's female- acting counterpart and his gestures, voice and mannerisms will keep you laughing. Also, Hank Azaria was hysterical as the houseboy Agador Sparticus who is in the middle of the entire affair. This is not the most politically correct movie, but is definately guaranteed to make you laugh. So, if you are in the mood to be entertained without needing to think too much this is the movie for you. And it is also easy to watch over and over again as you notice more and more little nuances each time.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - walk like a man.....
this movie is one of the most hilarious i've ever seen! Robin Williams gives an excellent performance as Armand, the gay owner of the nightclub "The Birdcage." Hank Azaria plays the outrageous "Agador Spartacus." And Nathan Lane, in one of his most brilliant roles, plays Albert, Armand's drag queen partner. You should get this movie just to see the scene where Armand teaches Albert to act like a man. You'll be laughing so hard you'll cry! Other good actors in the movie are Gene Hackman, Dianne Wiest, and Calista Flockhart.
