Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hilarious! My favourite movie since Lord of the Rings...
Like the Lord of the Rings was pure entertainment, 'I Spy' was pure comedy. The chemistry of Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy is perfect and I couldn't ask for more in a movie...

The movie starts with the introduction of the CIA Agent played by Owen Wilson. He is then confronted with a mission: an invisible ship called the Switchblade has gone missing and it is up to him to get it back. It is in the hands of a criminal mind, however, so this poses a problem. A boxing match is being fought in a week, so the CIA recruits the heavyweight champ Kelly Robinson (Murphy) so they can access the building where the holder of the Switchblade (Murphy calls it a Leafy Bug) is throwing a party the night before the fight.

The story continues with scene after scene of hysterics, and leaves you laughing at the end! All the characters did their job (some were made one-dimensional for humour: for example, the secret agent stud Carlos), and the scenes and gags were well done.

This movie contains probably the funniest scene I have ever watched but the critics and many movie-goers alike have bombed this movie in their reviews...Why? People are too caught up in the 'message' of the story or the 'new ideas' or something 'different'. What they don't see is that this is a comedy and if it makes you howl and you thoroughly enjoy it, then ITS A GOOD MOVIE! If you aren't entertained, then that's your preference and unfortunately the movie is not for you...In other words, comedy is meant solely to entertain, and many adventures-like it or not-are meant to show you the struggles and journeys of certain individuals. If you don't like it, just go see a drama: its going to be the one who gets all the Oscars, but it might not be the one that is the best of quality...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - I Spy a funny movie!
Loosely based on the late-1960s TV show, I Spy is about a CIA agent (Owen Wilson) whose latest assignment is to recover the Air Force's newest weapon: a stealth bomber. His partner on the case is a professional boxer (Eddie Murphy) who has entered the agency against his will. The mismatched pair verbally jab at each other from the moment they begin playing the spy game, but can they stop sparring long enough to save the free world?

The film opens fairly well, offering a load of mild action from the start and immediately jumping to humor in the process. Some of the jokes are a romp, not to the extent of Austin Powers, but simelarly to There's Something About Mary.

While in the style of buddy movies like Rush Hour and Lethal Weapon, the chemistry between Wilson and Murphy is a bit forceful, and they don't feel relaxed at certain points, but when they work off well against each other, it's splendid.

While the creative marketing folks may try to sell this as an action/comedy as the clock ticks toward its release, I Spy really acts as more of a spy comedy with a minimal usage of action. There is one scene involving a fun car pursuit sequence but when compared to the ratio of both comedy and action filled dazzlers in the long run, I Spy comes out as more of a buddy-buddy spy comedy.

Some of the negative aspects about the film is that the great jokes are few and far between, and sometimes the story has some gaps and illogical sequences.

This movie really never steps up the level of buddy movies, as Wilson works well with Jackie Chan than Murphy, ...Don't expect a film where you can't stop laughing (e.g. Austin Powers), but it still is a great night out movie where you can enjoy. Avergae viewers will enjoy it, but probably won't be anyone's favourite movie.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Eddie needs to really think about retiring
Eddie Murphy has reached his prime and this movie just lets you know that it is time for him to hang up his comedy torch and enjoy the rich life minus movie making. The comedy is weak and the plot is weaker. I am just glad that I didn't pay to see this in the movies. Don't waste your money or time buying this because it isn't worth it.
