Rating: - I can't believe this is me!
I bought this book as a "gratitude" purchase, but am finding it valuable to have all the information in book form. Flylady's website and emails have already started to change my life - and my house - even though years of trying other systems had not. I'm very educated and can pull off grand projects at work, but my house has never been neat for more than one day, and that after mad panic cleaning due to guests being scheduled. No matter how much I resolved to not let it get bad again, I just couldn't seem to keep it together. My shame, and sense of failure, were unspeakable. And I thought, permanent. But I just needed to learn from someone who conquered lifelong chaos. This system works, and it is EASY! I simply cannot believe how much less time and stress this system takes, and how much better life is becoming. Oh, Thank God! Now that flylady's book is in print, more people will be able to start living in peace rather than chaos. What a relief! Thank you Flylady, from the bottom of my heart. And my husband thanks you, too!
Rating: - The perfect Companion...
Marla's first book is a triumph! It's the perfect companion to all of Pam Young and Peggy Jones' books, made even more perfect by the fact that Marla credits the Sidetracked Sisters with her success! I've been a P & P fan forever, and wanted very much to be organized, but even P & P's easy-to-follow methods eluded me. I needed someone to guide me step-by-(baby)step as to where to start, and how to keep going. I joined the FlyLady list in 1999, but still was drowning in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome). It wasn't until I ordered Marla's book, and decided to try to keep my sink shiny, that a little bit of what I've been reading about all these years finally kicked in. For one solid month now, my kitchen has been clean and uncluttered! It is truly amazing - my Dear Husband is so happy when he gets up at five A.M. to feed our cats without having to contend with dirty dishes in the sink, and washed dishes all over the drain board. He loves the no clutter in the kitchen rule. And I love going into the kitchen and seeing everything shine. It's a small start (a baby step!), but eventually I hope to see my whole house decluttered and shiny. And I finally see some light at the end of the cluttered tunnel! Thank you, FlyLady, and Pam and Peggy, for sharing yourselves with the rest of us!
Rating: - baby steps did it
Let me tell you that I didn't believe in anything of this when I first joined the e-mail list. Somebody had mentioend it to me and I just wanted to give it a try, but shining the sink as the first step to happiness sounded a bit weird. Strangely though it worked. I didn't feel as overwhelmed as I used to when buying some book on getting organized and wondering how in the world I would be able to do everything that was mentioned. (Some of the books were wonderful to read, but I just couldn't integrate them into my life.) No, it all started with small steps, and shining the sink in the evening actually made me chuckle about this little secret nobody in my family knew about. Some weeks later even my husband noticed that some things had changed, that the kitchen seemed tidier, that I seemed to do more things than I had been doing, etc. Well, our house isn't perfect and never will be, but anybody can come in any minute now and I'm not embarrassed, I usually know exactly where things are, and I developed some routines that really help me doing things without even thinking about them. Even the time I spend surfing on the internet has greatly diminished, because I seem to be managing my time much better now and thus have time for things I'm really interrested in, like learning a musical instrument... To put it short, if you're one of those people who are afraid they never will get to that point of being organized, or feeling comfortable in their home, buy this book, or alternatively, subscribe to that e-mail list, because it's doable. I did it - you can do it, too.
